What are Retiree Benefits?

Retiree Benefits are for employees who retire from Dougherty County School System. This premium would be paid by the employee, as arranged by Dougherty County Schools.

Plan Rules:

  • Eligibility: Available to those who retire from the Dougherty County School System

  • Premiums are paid for by the retirees

What is Vision Insurance?​

A health and wellness plan designed to reduce your costs for routine preventive eye care including eye exams and prescription eyewear (eyeglasses and contact lenses).

Plan Rules:

  • Eligibility: Recent retirees, & children (up to age 26)

  • Coverage through MetLife

  • In-Network Provider Directory: CLICK HERE (Network: VSP Choice)

  • Group Name: Dougherty County Board of Education

  • Policy Number: 216418

  • Provides additional benefits to members who are not legally blind, but whose eyesight cannot be corrected to 20/70 with the use of optical lenses. See plan certificate for details

Dougherty County School System Retirement Program

The Dougherty County School System retirement program is made up of four parts – Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRSga), Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS), Supplemental Retirement plans and Social Security.

Teachers Retirement System of Georgia

TRS covers all teaching, administrative, clerical and other professional personnel. Teachers Retirement System eligible employees contribute 6% of their gross monthly salary to TRS.  In addition, the BOE contributes 19.98% of your gross salary to your TRS account.

 

PUBLIC SCHOOL EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM

PSERS covers all non-TRS employees including bus drivers, food service, maintenance, warehouse and custodial employees.  PSERS employees contribute $10.00 per month September through May (applies to employees hired after 7/1/2012).
